The Wii is a fad to non gamers.
For all you wii fans out there it's true it's just a fad, if you don't believe me look at the owners. 1/3 of wii owners are women and 1/8 are senior citizens.

Nintendo has become more worried about the non gamer audiance than the hardcore audiance how can anyone with a brain tell? Watch E3 of this year the game they showed out the most was Wii Fit a non gamer title, and they were absolutly boasting about there statistics at E3.

Another reason whenh the first hardcore game for the wii was released around launch (Zelda) it was exspected to be the main game however people don't relize it sold only a 1:4 ratio to the wii itsself when Zelda broke the 1 million units sold mark the wii was well over 4.5 million platforms sold, with more non gamers at home playing wii sports.

This really blows for Nintendo because when these non gamers drop there motion sensative controls Nintendo will loos there future money.

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

Just because I'm one of the smartest people on these boards doesn't mean you can hate me.

Yay for more pessimism when it comes to Nintendo. Whenver Nintendo comes out with a new system, there is always someone syaing that the system won't do well, or that its just a fad. Well guess what, if it was a fad, then Nintendo would be out of business right now. There is no way it is just a fad. They are jsut attracting people who don't play video games often, which is awesome, because when gamers start being able to afford it, it will sell better. And 4.5 million systems is apretty good sale, if you ask me.

I can't lie. I did have the same opinion about the N64 (that it would flop), but it ended up being a fairly good game system. Not as good as the Playstation, but it had some excellent titles, namely the FPS titles (Perfect Dark, Goldeneye) and the Nintendo first-party titles (of course). I don't personally own a N64, because I personally didn't like it, but it didn't flop like I expected it to. I did, however, own a Wii. The key word here is did, because I traded my Wii for an Xbox 360, and it is the best trade I've ever made (the worst being a Sega Genesis for a box of comics...). I had Zelda and Super Paper Mario for the Wii, both of which were the premier titles for the Wii (now, I suppose, Metroid Prime 3 can be added to the list, but I got rid of my Wii before it came out). In any case, the Wii isn't so much a fad as it is a bad console. The motion-controller scheme is about as gimmicky as it can get. Implementation is, for the most part, lame. Swinging a Wii controller around to make Link swing his sword just made me feel stupid (not to mention that, while not important to me, the Gamecube version of Twilight Pricess was more accurate to the cannon, with Link being left-handed, which drove some hardcore Zelda fans bonkers). I think ultimately the Wii will go down not because of their audience, but because of their third-party titles. This is the same flaw that the N64 had, and while the N64 by no means bombed, it didn't do as well as it could have done. With the Wii being the second system in a row to make this critical mistake, I can't help but wonder how much more time Nintendo has to be making games before it goes the way of Sega and the dodo.

I have been a gamer ever since i got my first ps1 when i was 3.

I have a wii , and i've had 2 360s. Both failed. See this is where quality comes in , My wii works PERFECT. My xbox would freeze randomly. And this is not because i let it over heat , oh no. I had it near my A/C , and in an open space.

I'm planning on getting either a ps3 or Xbox 360 Falcon (When they're released).

The Wii is starting to build up a library of good games, such as the new metroid and the upcoming super smash bros. brawl along with some other fighting games like soul calibur.

Yeah. The Wii can get really good if you just give it time. Nintendo just didn't develop games as fast as they could have. Nor did thrid parties. thats all

(Though it was slow, devolpment for good games takes a long time, so I wasn't complaining, I was just sayin')

Arghh...once again I have to put up with noobs that only talk out of thier *** and they believe that thier opinion is true *Cough* Jewunit *cough*

Here, Jewunit, let me school you.

First of all...
Jewunit Wrote:...1/3 of wii owners are women...
Sexist? So, I guess women can't be gamers. Tell that to my girlfriend.

Jewunit Wrote:...1/8 are senior citizens...
1/8? Woah. Look out everyone! The senior citizens are taking over!! Pffft...please. Thats a small percentage.

Jewunit Wrote:Nintendo has become more worried about the non gamer audiance than the hardcore audiance how can anyone with a brain tell? Watch E3 of this year the game they showed out the most was Wii Fit a non gamer title, and they were absolutly boasting about there statistics at E3.

1. Nintendo is all about making games fun. Did you see Wii-Board and not think of a future Tony Hawk game? Sure, Wii-Fit is the first to use the balance board but I'm pretty sure it won't be the last.

2. Nintendo has every right to boast about their sales because they were the underdogs and won! Ps3 has its shiny cool graphics and the 360 has the ability to die but the Wii has this wierd controller and the sensor control and people were saying "Nintendo is going to fail." Boom! The Wii is released and guess what....it dominated! In your face!

Jewunit Wrote:Another reason whenh the first hardcore game for the wii was released around launch (Zelda) it was exspected to be the main game however people don't relize it sold only a 1:4 ratio to the wii itsself when Zelda broke the 1 million units sold mark the wii was well over 4.5 million platforms sold, with more non gamers at home playing wii sports.

Wii sports is ****ing fun. Zelda is ****ing great. Enough said.

Jewunit Wrote:This really blows for Nintendo because when these non gamers drop there motion sensative controls Nintendo will loos there future money.

And why would they drop it? With games like "Super Mario Galaxy" and the highly anticipated "Super Smash Brothers" why would a non gamer drop the controller? I have a hardcore Sony fan thats going to buy a Wii JUST for Smash Brothers. it doesn't matter if its just one game. Thats money in Nintendo's pocket.

JAlexBrown Wrote:I think ultimately the Wii will go down not because of their audience, but because of their third-party titles.

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Manhunt 2, Brothers in Arms: Double Time, and countless third-party games that are going to be released for the Wii. Thirp party companies want to mae games for the Wii because of the many possiblities with the controller.

Overall...

That's true. If it was just a 'fad', Nintendo would either be doing horribly or out of business.

A lot of what this thread has mentioned is true. Nintendo isn't focusing on hardcore games, but that's why it's the leading console. Plus, "No More Heroes" was released. That game is described as "The game mature Wii fans have been waiting for."

Wow man, I would consider myself a hardcore gamer and i own a wii and i wouldnt change it for anything in the world i love it. Also nintendo saved the gaming industry back in the day when stores wouldnt stock game systems so you should thank nintendo for all they've done in the past and are to do in the future and as many people said give it time the library of games will build up in time. besides all of ps3's games are the same youve got shooter shooters and shooters and the only difference is a map or 2

I don't think it's a fad, I think it's a great thing that there are companies out there that are trying to broaden the field and get more people into gaming. Whether we like it or not gaming is going to be dominated by the casual market and us hardcore gamers will eventually become more of a niche than we are now. We're getting to a point in our society where innovation and creativity rules. I think what Nintendo is doing is taking a step into another direction that we can interact with stories. I'm just not understanding why shifting your target audience is a bad thing.

RE: The Wii is a fad to non gamers.
For me, Wii is the best console now, because it is interactive..the gamer is not confined to his seat..Now that fitness games are a hit, Wii sports games are the best!
